Abstract

The erosion risk of the Saigon river - Thanh Da peninsula that has seriously occurred and threatened people life and properties is a hot problem in Ho Chi Minh city. In the recent years, due to the big changes of flows and uncontrolled sand exploitation, the erosion situation of the Saigon river bank has happened with the increasing erosion speed causing unstability for infrastructures, domestic areas, especially at Thanh Da peninsula. Study on the reason of Saigon river banks erosion and find out techniques to mitigate the erosion damage is an urgent task. The paper has shown the real situation and causes of the Saigon river bank erosion at Thanh Da and proposed preliminary solutions river training and protection.
