Abstract

Language borrowing is an objective phenomenon- evolving continously according to a particular law at various linguistic levels - phonetic, lexical and syntactic, which is thus one of the essential supplementary process of enriching the lexical asset of a native language. Thanks to the contact with other peoples, the Vietnamese language has encompassed factors of borrowing from other languages. From the period of the October Revolution, our country has close relation with the former Soviet Union and thus the Vietnamese language has seen a phenomenon of borrowing from the Russian language even though it was rather scarce in terms of word borrowing, sememe borrowing, and syntactic borrowing.
