Abstract

The article includes four parts: 1. Linguistic politeness serve affective function. In every usage the term "politeness" describes behaviour which is somewhat formal and distancing, where the intentions is not to intrude or impose. 2. Politeness and face needs. Politeness involves showing concern for two different kind of face needs: negative & positive. Some linguistics devices expressing politeness in Vietnamese. 3. Politeness construction and its effect in interaction. The same linguistic devices can express different meanings in different contexts. 4. Conclusion
