Abstract

In this paper, new results for geochemical study of selected heavy metals (Pb, Cu, Cr, Zn and Cd) in the aquatic sediments of Hochiminh city are presented. The aquatic system has been polluted by the untreated or proper treated wastewaters from domestic and industrial sources. One of the serious contaminants is heavy metals. The accumulation of heavy metals (Cu, Cr, Zn and Cd) is exceeded the reference values, especially in Tan Hoa-Lo Gom and Tau Hu-Ben Nghe canals. The fate and distribution of the heavy metals are well correlated with geochemical parameters and organic matter.
