Abstract

Science and technology is one of the four input factors of production and growth. It is also an important impetus for Vietnam’s in-depth economic development. Under Decision No. 418/QĐ-TTg on Approval for Science and Technology Development Strategy for 2011-2020 dated on April 11, 2012, science and technology was specified as the key drive to Vietnam’s fast and stable development. Science and technology must play a crucial role in creating a breakthrough in production workforce, growth model, enhancing the economy’s competitiveness and hastening the industrialization and modernization process. To evaluate the contribution of science and technology to economic development, the author conducted a review of quantitative studies on the contribution of science and technology to economic growth speed by both domestic and international researchers, thereby proposing suggestions to boost the contribution of science and technology to economic growth.
