CLASSIFICATION OF CLAY SOILS BY USING METHYLENE BLUE ADSORPTION TEST
Abstract
This paper describes the application of the Methylene Blue Test for determining the cation exchange capacity of soils. This method has been used in many countries in the world because of (i) its reliable theoretical background, (ii) using simple apparatus and easy procedure and (iii) confident results. This study applies the Methylene Blue Adsorption Test for soft soils in Binh Tan and Binh Chanh districts - Ho Chi Minh city. The results from this study indicate the existing of a) a relationship between cation exchange capacity of soils (CEC) with plasticity index (IP) and percentage of clay-size fraction (< 2 µm); b) a relationship between liquid limit (LL) with plasticity index (IP) and percentage of clay-size fraction.
