Abstract

The management of the study activities of the students is one of the contents of educational mission in universities. Good management of study activities will enhance the effectiveness of students' learning activities. A survey was conducted of 584 students of the member universities belonging to Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCMC). The findings give evidence of the learning interest of the students and the time spent on study. The VNU-HCMC student average time spent in learning is 6,6751 hours per day. Nevertheless, the management of students' study activities at VNU-HCMC was found not to have met the quality enhancement requirements. The causes leading to the weaknesses in students' studying were found to be a lack of enthusiasm and motivation/good will. Based on these results, the author proposes some ways to enhance the effectiveness of students' studying activity management such as: development of students' positive attitude, motivation and creativeness, curriculum innovation, establishment of a more effective network of learning guidance and counsellors; and improvement of the evaluation of study objectives.
