Abstract

Benzyl alcohol can be oxidated to benzaldehyde by KMnO4, Fe(NO3)3.9H20 and Cu(NO3)2.3H20 on acid-treated bentonite supporter in non-solvent condition. The optimum condition to acidify Binh Thuan bentonite is 3 hours, 70°C and HCI 10%. Bentonite which is acid-treated in optimum condition has specific area at 268.22 m/g and acidity at 0.287 mol/g. The oxidation of benzyl uncol to benzaldehyde by KMnO4, Fe(NO3)3.9H20 and Cu(NO3)2.3H20 on acid-treated bentonite supporter gave high yield, and high selectivity.
