Abstract

It has been more than 30 years since the foundation of ASEAN (1967 - 1998) while Vietnam just entered this organization three years ago (Jul. 28, 95). It is a result of a process consisting of many factors. This article is more than an analysis of basic issues on Vietnam's side, namely, viewpoints on independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, ideological problems, relationships with neighboring countries as well as other issues.
