Abstract

The paper analyses the fracture mechanics in the well by the finite element method with BARSOUM'S singularity elements around the crack tips. This analysis permits to calculate the stress intensity factor at the tip of cracks emanating from the wellbore. Then, the limit equilibrium curves of the wellbore pressure could be established to understand better the breakdown process in minifrac or leak-off tests.
