Abstract

Vietnam possesses a brilliant background of social sciences and humanities as well as a traditional advantage during its long history. Our Communist Party and the government have long been paying much attention to the building and developing of social sciences and humanities; the Institute of Social Sciences in Ho Chi Minh City has been established after the liberation of Southern Vietnam. This is a research institution which aims at serving the Southern provinces and the whole country. In the course of industrialization and modernization, social sciences and humanities may be developed in the five directions proposed by the author. In the mean time, applied study should be carried out focusing on making use of experimental, quantitative and qualitative studying methods in order to make better contribution to the country's development.
