Abstract
It has been my great honor to serve as Editor-in-Chief of the Science and Technology Development Journal at Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) from March 9, 2021, through April 1, 2025. During these four years, I have been enriched by many inspiring and deeply meaningful experiences, contributing to the journal’s transformation into a prominent publication both domestically and internationally. Our accomplishments thus far reflect the tireless efforts of the editorial team, editorial board members, authors, and the entire VNU-HCM community, building on the strong foundation established by generations of editors and editors-in-chief over the past 25 years. I am delighted to announce that Professor Phan Bach Thang will succeed me as the next Editor-in-Chief. Given his profound research expertise and outstanding leadership, I am confident the Science and Technology Development Journal (STDJ) will continue to flourish, ultimately earning its place in the Scopus and Web of Science databases.
Introduction
I was honored to be appointed by the Director of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) as Editor-in-Chief of its Science and Technology Development Journal (STDJ) in March 2021—a remarkable opportunity that allowed me to learn and grow alongside the journal. On April 1, 2025, I will step down from this position, concluding four years of deeply meaningful experiences. During this period, our achievements are the result of tireless efforts by a dedicated editorial team, guidance from a committed Editorial Board, and steadfast support from VNU-HCM’s leadership, both past and present.
I am delighted to announce that Professor Phan Bách Thắng will be the new Editor-in-Chief. With his stellar expertise and leadership, I am confident the Science and Technology Development Journal will continue to flourish, aiming toward inclusion in renowned databases such as Scopus and Web of Science.
Established in 1997 and releasing its first issue in 1998, STDJ boasts nearly three decades of continuous publication, during which it has published over 4,000 scientific articles and earned the trust of scientists worldwide 1 . Since transitioning to online publishing in 2018 and adopting an Open Access model, STDJ has greatly expanded the reach of its authors’ work, enabling research to be shared with a truly global audience. Underpinned by a rigorous peer-review process, professional standards, and an aesthetically appealing electronic publishing system, STDJ continues to uphold its reputation as a prestigious academic journal.
I am keenly aware of my responsibilities as Editor-in-Chief, particularly during the challenging transition from print to digital and from Vietnamese to English. This progress rests on the solid groundwork laid by the founding Editors-in-Chief, Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Giao, Prof. Phan Thanh Binh, and Prof. Duong Anh Duc. Succeeding these mentors is both an honor and a profound commitment.
Finally, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Director of the Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading STDJ over the past period.
