Abstract

The paper introduces, analyzes as well as finds out values and typical features of the whale worshiping festival from An Thuy fishing community (in Ba Tri district, Ben Tre Province). The basis of research used to complete the paper are theories of functionalism and structuralism combining with field study methods belonging to the ethnology and anthropology. My research demonstrates the whale worshiping festival organized by the fishing community living here which reflects the local people’s praying the Southern Ocean God who will save and support them. The festival shows the community connection and cultural transformation for following generations.
