Abstract

With the help of statistics, this paper analyses and compares syntactical characteristics of the leads of journalistic reports on online newspapers, such as Dan Tri and Vietnamnet, to those in printed newspapers, such as Tuoi Tre and Lao Dong. We have achieved results of statistical significance (p < 0,05), which indicates differences between the two types of newspapers on various aspects such as the number of sentences, the length of sentences (depending on syllable), sentences classified by syntax, sentences classified by speaking purposes, and leads classified by topic sentences. Those results work as starters for evaluating the relationship between online newspapers and printed newspapers on various aspects.
