Abstract

Rapid increase of underground water use started in 1990 when HCM City were urbanized, people and the industries used underground water as the main water resource. Until now, underground water level is decreasing (annual drawdown: 2m depth at the heavy ground water pumping stations) that may cause deform of soil at few areas with large exploitation capacity wells. This paper demonstrates the use of GIS for mapping susceptible areas for a study site, aims to achieve a sustainable groundwater management. It also discusses the potential use of GIS for assessing subsidence impacts due to underground water extraction in HCM City.
