Abstract

Strawberry seed (Fragaria vesca L.) germinated when the seed coat was cut or burned with concentrate sulfuric acid. When strawberry seeds were soaked with the concentrate sulfuric acid solution in 1 minute to 10 minutes, the germinative ratio increased from 14% to 85%. The germinative ratio lightly increased (3%) when the seed were soaking with 70% ethanol in 1 minute. They did not germinate with nitric acid solution and the embryo life was reduced depending the time and the concentration of treatment solution. The strawberry seed had protein and lipid as a storage and a thick coat.
