Abstract

Transformation of waste Shortening oil into Biodiesel is based on the Sodium hydroxide catalysed esterification of triglycerides in the Shortening oil. It has been found that the reaction time, molar ratio of Shortening oil and Methanol, and catalyst content have effects on the transformation. Quality of Biodiesel product has been analysed and it shows that a mixture of 20 vol% of Biodiesel and 80 vol% Petroleum Diesel (B20) can be used as fuel for diesel engines.
