Abstract

This paper presents a number of methods to disambiguate lexically and syntactically ambiguous sentences in Vietnamese and English. These methods have a key role in translating as well as learning a foreign language because they help a translator/ learner to clarify ambiguous sentences, to heighten awareness that there are innocent-looking sentences to which many different interpretations are often attributed. A translator/ learner has to know this to interpre, and at a higher level, to use ambiguities in the target language more effectively.
