Abstract

To some extent, languages have similarities in their structures and expressions but at the same time each language has its own peculiarities and characteristics. Students bring the way of thinking of their mother tongue to studying a foreign language and then apply it mechanically making some of them say many sentences which are "unpleasant to the ear" or have a different meaning. Therefore, this paper compares some differences between negative sentences in Vietnamese and English to help students studying Vietnamese avoid to some degree mistakes when they transfer to Vietnamese from English or vice versa.
