Abstract

In the past ten years, politeness in communication has become a topic of discussion. Different writers have different views on politeness in general, and politeness in communication in particular. For example : • Social standards of etiquette (Vanderbuilt and Baldridge, 1978) • Guides to communication (Lakoff 1989, Leech 1983, Edmosnon, 1981 and Kasher 1986) . Maintaining your position (Brown and Levinson 1987) • Contractual dialogue (Fraser 1990) In this article, the writer only analyses politeness with a strict reference to its use in language. This issue is related to the concept of "saving face” mentioned by G. Yule in 1997 in his book "Pragmatics"
