Abstract

Generalization has important role in making map, especially topographic map. Generalization is used when we want to reduce scale of map or focus on important features. As a result, we have better map about graphical representation, easier to understand. If this process is done manually, it will cost a lot of time and effort. Therefore, this study refer to build some tools for automatic generalization for traffic data on topographic map, particularly from 1/2000 to 1/10000 in ArcGIS software. Achieved result is satisfactory when applying for four topographic maps at Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh city. Thanks to these tools, the generalization process is more faster. Moreover, these tools also save time and money for map makers.
