Abstract

During the past 20 years of diplomatic normalization established by both countries, Vietnam-U.S. relations have been increasingly enhanced and broadened in basis of mutual interests and long-time strategies. In addition to economic, commercial, cultural, educational, scientific-technological achievements and those in solving war aftermaths, the defense-security cooperation between the two countries has got so much more progress. The paper selected some remarkable aspects of Vietnam-U.S. relations in the past 20 years; especially paying close attention to reasons and dynamics forcing the changes in the bilateral relation regarding defense and security, and to better awareness of similar strategic benefits of the two nations in the complicated fast-changing international context.
