Abstract

In order to understand and carry out Uncle Ho's last wishes, we need to understand the underlying practical and theoretical basis of his will and to also understand the man himself. This is so because his entire life, thoughts, emotions moral values were the embodiment of all that is noble in Western, Oriental and Vietnamese culture. Uncle Ho began his will by emphasizing the profound role that the Communist Party had played in the success of our nation's revolution. He stressed that, in order to build a truly revolutionary Party, there was a need for "unity" based on "popular democracy" and "strict criticism and self-criticism." Uncle Ho also stated that we should all strive to achieve the revolutionary virtues of "thrift", "honesty", "fairness" and "impartiality" and to train the revolutionary youth for the future. He also stressed the importance of raising the standard of living of the people. Uncle Ho's will is not only an expression of his affection for the Party and the people, but also a revolutionary blueprint and a call for future generations to strive to build and protect the country. Under the leadership of the Party and in light of Uncle Ho's will, our people have gloriously fulfilled the task of liberating the south and unifying the entire country. Today, we are successfully carrying out reforms to achieve a "rich people", "strong country", and "civilized and fair society."
